A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT…

            We the citizens of Shenango Area School District see our district as having an excellent educational system, known for its quality teachers, superior program of studies, and community support.  At Shenango, we envision a strong community of schools dynamic in its mission to provide all students with the knowledge and skills to prepare them for success now and into the 21st century-in the classroom, the workplace, and the community.

            The Shenango Area School District offers a challenging and rigorous curriculum in all subjects.  The curriculum encourages connections among disciplines, the practical application of knowledge, and high-level thinking skills.  The delivery of instruction emphasizes the use of technology as a tool for learning, attention to the self as an integral piece to learning, and high expectations for all students.  Concurrently, the teachers are skilled in recognizing individual student needs and developing instructional strategies and assessments so that all students can reach their full potential and become a responsible partner in their own education.

            The Shenango Area School District offers safe havens for learning where students are responsible school citizens.   Our district has high expectations for conduct.  When those expectations are not met, consequences are clearly defined and consistently enforced.  Furthermore, the district staff works collaboratively with students and parents to develop mutual respect and a positive school environment.

            The Shenango Area School District develops an effective partnership with parents and the community.  A good education depends on more than teachers and curriculum.  Parent involvement is essential; it is expected.  In addition to working collaboratively with parents/guardians, the entire district staff functions as an instructional team-from the bus driver to the superintendent.  Furthermore, the walls of the classroom expand to include the wider community.  Everyone benefits from the opportunities to interact with businesses, service agencies, and institutions of higher learning.  These partnerships provide extended opportunities for life-long learning, necessary for living and working in the 21st century and beyond.

            Essentially, children are the only reason schools exist!  This belief requires focus and a steadfast commitment to a broad range of professional development opportunities, rich and varied educational experiences, and innovative strategies that may sometimes challenge common educational practices.  Thus, comprehensive and collaborative planning for change, as well as sustained growth, becomes paramount to ensure that all students reach their highest potential and goals.
